Useful Information

There is a lot to be considered when hiring a nanny. We have tried to outline some useful information below, to help you prepare as an employer. 

Employment Contract

Once you have decided to hire a nanny and all employment terms have been agreed, you will need to provide your nanny with an employment contract. You are legally required to do so within two months of your nanny’s start date. A written employment contract will avoid any potential disputes as to terms of employment.

Insurance

As an employer, you are legally required to be covered by employers’ liability insurance for injury or disease. You will undoubtedly ensure that your home is a safe workplace for your nanny but in the unfortunate event of an accident occurring to your nanny in your own home, you nanny would have the right to raise a claim for reimbursement of costs. Employer's liability insurance will cover you against such claims.


Some household insurance policies often cover this type of public liability insurance so do check with your insurer. 

 

It is not a legal requirement that your nanny should take out her own insurance against public liability although she may wish to do so to protect herself.

 

If the nanny is to have use of a car it should be appropriately insured.



Salary and payroll 

Salary expectations are mentioned in the Our Services page under the Parents section. These are of course provided for information and are quoted on a net basis. We strongly agree that when interviewing your candidates and negotiate their salary, you agree a gross salary figure. The employment contract should quote the gross salary figure which includes the nanny's national insurance and tax.
